As an alternative energy source, Intrepid Technology and Resources processes animal waste, converting it to natural gas. They are currently setup in Idaho and have plans to expand nationally. They say that since US has animal waste of two billion tons per year, and a diminishing natural gas supply, they have created organic waste digesters close to organic waste sites. At these locations, they produce methane gas from organic waste, which they clean and distribute. Methane gas makes a good alternative for natural gas.
